Topic: “Next Generation Management Leadership”
We are kicking off the 2007/2008 Lakeshore e2e series with a highly insightful presentation by P.J. Thompson, President of Trans-Matic.
Trans-Matic Mfg. is a local manufacturer founded right here in our area in 1968. In its 40 years of business Trans-Matic has progressed through many different chapters. One fateful decision, made by Trans-Matic’s founder, Patrick Thompson, then at age 27, was to choose Holland, Michigan as its home location. Over the years, many individuals have contributed to what Trans-Matic is today.
Trans-Matic’s current president, P. J. Thompson will discuss a matter critical to Trans-Matic’s success and eventually to that of any growing company, “Next Generation Management Leadership”.

October’s Membership Spotlight
Age: 25
Company: Gentex Corporation
Occupation: Material Planner
How long have you lived/worked in Holland?
I moved to Holland 3 years ago after graduating from college (wow, has it really been that long?!)
What besides being HYP do you like to do (Hobbies)?
Teaching Spinning classes, cycling, horseback riding, painting (acrylic and watercolor), traveling, crafting handbags/purses (hoping to one day launch my own line), preparing outrageous vegan meals (read: “experiments” – I’m a bit of a mad scientist in the kitchen) . . .
What do you like best about HYP, or if you’re a new member, what drew you to HYP?
I really like that HYP gives new comers a way to get involved in the community and also allows people to network and meet other young professionals in the area. For me, HYP has lead to many new opportunities through other members that I have gotten to know, and has opened my eyes to the possibility that this community holds.
Our VP, Mr. Hill, is a funny guy; he’d like you to tell us a joke. He’s always looking to add to his own collection.
I’m not so sure anyone really wants me to tell a joke . . . but it is October, so I have a few that seem appropriate:
Why did the Vampire subscribe to the Wall Street Journal?
He heard it had great circulation . . .
What did the skeleton say to the bartender?
I’ll have two beers and a mop . . .
See, I warned you . . . =)

The Holland Area League of Women Voters has invited HYP to attend the October political forum at City Hall featuring two candidates for mayor in Holland, as well as candidates for two contested city council seats. But before we go on the HYP field trip, we will gather at Butch’s Dry Dock in downtown Holland for some sustainance, social time and networking opportunities. So stop in at Butch’s after work, and then walk with HYP over to the Chambers of City Council at City Hall to engage your local politicians in an open forum. Plenty of time will be available to ask the candidates about HYP issues that weigh on your mind.
