Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind coming to Holland!
About Daniel Pink’s book: Just as information workers surpassed physical laborers in economic importance, Pink claims, the workplace terrain is changing yet again, and power will inevitably shift to people who possess strong right brain qualities. His advocacy of “R-directed thinking” begins with a bit of neuroscience tourism to a brain lab that will be extremely familiar to those who read Steven Johnson’s Mind Wide Open last year, but while Johnson was fascinated by the brain’s internal processes, Pink is more concerned with how certain skill sets can be harnessed effectively in the dawning “Conceptual Age.” Read more

The Holland Sentinel had an interesting article on The University of Michigan’s latest population projection for Allegan and Ottawa Counties. Current population forecasts are lower than what was reported in 2003. Most notable is the sharp decline in 18- 24- year-old people in both counties.

The Eighth Annual Culinary Cabaret happens in the Spring. This popular, festive event is open to the public with all proceeds benefiting the Community Health Center.

- Blackjack, Poker, Roulette, Raffles, Music, Food, Drinks and more!
Volunteers are needed to help raise money for Saugatuck Community Recreation. The proceeds go toward recreation scholarships which pay for registration fee’s and equipment for those children in need. Over 30 volunteers are needed to help deal Black Jack, Poker, Roulette, Shuffle Cards, Sell raffle tickets, etc. Not sure if you can deal? A pre-event training seminar is provided to help train you and get you comfortable with the rules. You don’t want to work for 5 hours? Even though the night is scheduled for 5 hours we are only busy for about 2. When you are not dealing or working feel free to eat, drink, or gamble yourself. This is a community party so everybody has a good time!

Holland First, a program of the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce, is now accepting applications for the class of 2008. The program is free of charge and offers eight instructional sessions that explore personal leadership and cultural concerns while focusing on area programs and resources.
Dante Villarreal, Business Consultant with the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, will facilite the program. You might also know Dante as the winner of the 2007 HYP Golf Outting!!!
