Have you signed the petition?

Holland Young Professionals is asking you for your help to ensure this important economic development issue is on the ballot in November.

The goal of the Say Yes to Sunday Campaign is to collect enough signatures to place the question of overturning the Sunday beer and wine sales ban before voters in the November 4 general election.  By signing this petition you are not voting to overturn this ban, you are simply agreeing that this is an important economic development issue and that it needs to be on the ballot in November for voters to decide.

IF YOU ARE A REGISTERED VOTER IN OTTAWA COUNTY, PLEASE STOP BY THE HOLLAND AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BY AUGUST 12th TO SIGN THIS PETITION.

The Chamber is located at:
272 East 8th Street
Holland, MI 49423

Watt’s Going On?: Power Supply Alternatives for Holland’s Energy Future

Watt IS going? In four to ten years, Holland’s demand for electrical power will outpace current capacity for supply. Continued volatility and uncertainty in the electric industry could place Holland citizens at risk in terms of the costs and reliability of electric power.

How will we meet growing demand? What will it cost? What about renewable power? How do we conserve? Come and discover options for increasing supply, how decisions being made will affect the cost and how and where our power may be generated in years to come.

Open house is free and open to Holland area residential and business community. Light refreshments will be served. Receive your coupon for a free energy-saving CFL light bulb and enter to win a “green” energy powered item at the event. Membership Spotlight - JULY

hvolkema1.jpgName: Heather Volkema

Age: 23

Company: Metro Health Hospital

Occupation: Emergency Room Registered Nurse

How long have you lived/worked in Holland? All 23 years!

What besides being HYP do you like to do (hobbies)?
I start grad school this fall, the beach, sailing, interior design, my puppy (Ellie), and hanging out with my husband Nate, family, and friends

What do you like best about HYP, or if you’re a new member, what drew you to HYP?
I like that everyone is so welcoming and that not everyone is a suit and tie professional. I also like the events and now being active on the membership committee.

Our President, Mr. Hill, is a funny guy; he’s like you to tell us a joke. He is always looking to add to his own collection.

Being blonde, I felt a blonde joke would be appropriate…
There was a blonde driving down the road one day. She glanced to her right and noticed another blonde sitting in a nearby field, rowing a boat with no water in sight.

The blonde angrily pulled her car over and yelled at the rowing blonde, “What do you think you’re doing? It’s things like this that give us blondes a bad name. If I could swim, I’d come out there and kick your butt!”
