Congratulations to HYP board member’s Mat Nguyen and Haans Mulder!  Both are featured on the Holland Sentinel’s 40 under 40 which profiles 40 of the brightest, young talents in the Holland area.  Mat has been with HYP since its inception in 2003 and Haans joined very soon afterward.   Both individuals have been integral to the success of the Holland Young Professionals as well as the many other organizations they are involved with.  Please congratulate them at upcoming HYP events!

The Holland Sentinel had an interesting article on The University of Michigan’s latest population projection for Allegan and Ottawa Counties.  Current population forecasts are lower than what was reported in 2003.  Most notable is the sharp decline in 18- 24- year-old people in both counties.

HYP New Year’s gets spotted!

HYP set a new standard for New Year’s in Holland, Michigan.  On December 31, 2007, HYP transformed the Park Theatre into a dazzling NYE venue complete with live music, a giant discoball, full bar, 90+ guests and a dizzying array of Bond-themed decor.  The Holland Sentinel caught up with us during the event.

Plus, the event raised almost $3,000 for the Park Theatre which will be used to help fund operations and future events at the theatre.

Thank you to everyone that attended the event, to the 33rd Street Band and to all of our sponsors including: Mark Oegema, BlueSky Sessions, Tony and Ginner Castillo and the Holland Area Arts Council.  Let the countdown begin… only 363 days left until NYE09.

Recap - Lakeshore e2e with Hopwood Depree

Lakeshore e2e - Hopwood DepreeThank you to Hopwood Depree for participating in our latest Lakeshore e2e event.  It is exciting to hear about what he and others in the area are doing to build the film industry in West Michigan. (see more photos by clicking the ”photos” link in the navigation)

During the event, the question was raised what we as a business community can do to help with Hopwood’s vision.  The answer… contact our legislators and lobby for additional incentives that will help get the ball rolling.  Hopwood continues to talk to members of our government and is pushing for new incentives to go through that would allow us to compete with states like Louisiana and New Mexico for motion picture production projects.

According to Hopwood, not only would it bring significant dollars into the Michigan economy but would also create jobs for the area.
